Pest control training in Trinidad
Retired UF/IFAS professor Dale Habeck conducted a pest control training workshop in Trinidad in September to upgrade the skills of 13 entomologists, agricultural officers, plant quarantine officers and agricultural assistants. Lepidopteran - an order of insects including moths and butterflies - are among the most serious pests for vegetable crops. The economic losses caused by these and other pests prompt farmers to increase pesticide use.
The training upgraded the skills of the department staff and plant quarantine officers. It was arranged by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture in Trinidad in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Land, and Marine Resources.
The training was arranged through FAVA/CA - the Florida Association of Voluntary Agencies for Caribbean Action, Inc.
